Why us
There has been a dental practice at 174 Otley Road for over 50 years. Currently the practice is owned by Dr Precious who has been practising dentistry since 1998 when she qualified from Leeds Dental Institute.
Your first appointment with a Leeds Dentist
Before your first appointment you will be asked to fill out a medical history form (click here to download a copy). This helps ensure that before your dentists examines your mouth, they are aware of any important medical factors that could affect treatment. Your dentist will discuss any important factors raised at your first visit. Your first appointment is a two way process where your dentist will discuss your concerns about your mouth. Intra oral cameras are used to allow you to see what the dentist sees. Your dentist will carry out an extensive examination with any appropriate x-rays, photographs and models. This ensures that the team has enough information to be able to produce a written treatment plan and cost estimate for any further treatment visits. If you are interested in cosmetic dentistry to improve the appearance of your teeth this can also be discussed and the dentist’s expert opinion of the options available will be given. If you have any concerns about the cost of treatment or the actual need for treatment you are entitled to seek a second opinion before accepting the dentist’s recommendations. It is Far Headingley Dental Cares philosophy to try and ensure that patients only receive treatment or services that they want and need.
Total Oral Care from a Dentist in Leeds
Our clinical team hopes to be able to develop a long lasting relationship with its patients. Often a dentist will look after different generations of families over the years. Most people see their dentist more than any other healthcare professional. This creates trusting relationships and helps to allow your dentist to adopt a preventative care approach through advice and monitoring. If problems are identified, solutions will be proposed and discussed. A treatment plan and costs will always be provided.
Whiter teeth from a Leeds Dentist
Many people would like their teeth to be whiter. Far Headingley Dental Care is pleased to be able to offer two solutions to gaining a brighter and whiter smile. Your dentist will be able to provide advice and assess the suitability of these treatments for your teeth.
Britesmile Whitening: The latest technique of Britesmile whitening will give a whiter, brighter smile in around an hour. The technique is painless with no injections and no damage to the teeth or gums. The new and innovative Britesmile is used to activate a special whitening gel placed on the teeth. The results can be seen straight away so that you leave the surgery with a more confident and whiter smile. This quick and easy method for whitening your smile is ideal if you want to improve your image and confidence before that important job interview, your wedding day or any other important event that you would like to look your best for. You can relax and enjoy a DVD with our special RIMAX Virtual Vision DVD goggles whilst having your Britesmile Whitening at Far Headingley Dental Care. Click here to see our current promotions.
Home Whitening: An alternative to Britesmile Whitening is Home Whitening where you apply a whitening gel into a gum shield and wear it overnight for 4-5 nights. This is a cheaper alternative to Britesmile Whitening but takes longer to achieve results.
Cosmetic Dentistry from a Dentist in Leeds
The dental team will be happy to give information and advice on treatments that could improve your confidence, self esteem and even your career prospects. Modern developments in techniques and dental materials provide many more options than previously available. Cosmetic dentistry is more reliable, comfortable and aesthetically pleasing than ever before. You may want to simply replace any unsightly sliver fillings or radically improve your smile. Far Headingley Dental Care can provide help and advice, whatever your cosmetic needs.
Veneers: A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain that is individually made to fit over the front of a tooth. These can be used to easily change the shape and colour of a tooth.
Crowns: Crowns or “Caps” completely cover a weak tooth above the gum and protect it. Crowns can be made of metal or porcelain or a combination of the two.
Bridges: A bridge is used where a tooth a missing. The teeth either side of the space are crowned with a false tooth within the space. Bridges are made within a dental laboratory and are then fitted by the dentist. You can relax and enjoy a DVD with our special RIMAX Virtual Vision DVD goggles whilst having your cosmetic treatment at Far Headingley Dental Care.
Smile Improvement from a Leeds Dentist
Most people who ask about smile improvement do so because they want to improve the appearance of their mouth. It is amazing how much confidence you can achieve by having a bright, white and straight smile. Your dentist will discuss with you your wants and needs and then present options to you. This may be a simple as a Plasma Whitening session or it could involve cosmetic dentistry to change the shape and appearance of your teeth. It is always a sensitive issue but rest assured that bad breath or halitosis is a very common issue. The majority of bad breath comes from bacteria in the mouth that produce gases that have an unpleasant smell. These bacteria live in the areas that you miss when you clean your teeth. Bad breath can also be caused by diet (garlic, onions etc) and by smoking (drying of the mouth causes nicotine and tar to build up). The first step to take to reduce bad breath is to brush and floss correctly – at least twice a day. This will help remove the bacteria that create the odour. You can also use interdental brushes or tongue scrapers. If this first step does not solve the problem you may require professional cleaning by a hygienist. Your appointment with a hygienist has two key benefits. Firstly, care will be taken to thoroughly clean and polish your teeth. You will be amazed how much fresher and cleaner your teeth will feel. The second benefit is that you will be given advice on your cleaning technique and on products that may make it easier for you to be more effective in your own home. Many people like to visit the hygienist before important meetings, interviews or even their weddings.
Replacing missing teeth
Bridges: A bridge is used where a tooth a missing. The teeth either side of the space are crowned with a false tooth within the space. Bridges are made within a dental laboratory and are then fitted by the dentist
Dentures: A denture is a plate (made of plastic or metals) with false teeth attached to it. These false teeth replace the teeth missing in your mouth. Dentures are held in place with retaining clips.
Hygienist & therapist services
Hygienists provide two key benefits for clients at Far Headingley Dental Care. The first is to help patients who have gum disease by performing prolonged gum treatment (PGT) over a series of visits. This combined with oral care advice can help stabilise gum disease. You can only be prescribed this treatment after a visit with a dentist who will advise how long the treatment will take and how much it will cost. The second benefit is to provide regular cleaning and polishing of your teeth and oral hygiene instruction between dental visits. Not only does this remove plaque and calculus that is difficult to remove by brushing and flossing yourself, it can also help improve your confidence by having a cleaner, fresher mouth and reduce the need for expensive dental treatment. Once you have been examined by a Far Headingley Dental Care dentist to check your oral health, you can book a hygienist appointment for a clean and polish whenever you want a cleaner, fresher mouth. This is great if you have an important event such as a job interview or even first a date or wedding. Dental therapists at Far Headingley Dental Care perform hygienists’ services and also minor treatments such as extractions and fillings. Therapists often spend time with children to mix treatment with ongoing preventative care education to help reduce the risk of future gum disease and tooth decay.
Snoring
Persistent snoring can not only cause social difficulties but also more serious health problems. Snoring is the result of a reduced size of the airway whilst asleep. Whilst in many cases this causes no problems in other cases in can result in oxygen deprivation which badly affects both the quality of sleep and general health. Far Headingley Dental Care are please to be able to offer Therasnore ™. The TheraSnore™ is a world leading oral product to stop snoring. Invented in the USA by Doctor Thomas Meade, well over one million devices have been fitted in the world to date. It is a small and simple to use, comfortable oral mouth piece, which is worn during sleep. It looks like a small mouthguard. The TheraSnore™ is painless and causes no permanent changes to your body. It is one of the least expensive and most successful medical treatments to stop snoring.
Needle Free Anaesthetic
It is now possible to administer local anaesthetic for a filling without a needle injection. This has proved to be to be very successful and popular (especially for nervous patients). It is not possible to use it in all situations at present, but it is ideal for the front and side teeth and can be used for both adults and children. The technique is virtually painless with just a soft 'thump' when the jet of local anaesthetic is administered. It is directed specifically towards the root of the tooth and means that less anaesthetic is required and the feeling of 'numbness' wears off quicker.
Fees
Everybody’s mouth is unique and people’s requirements, wants and needs are different. Treatment fees are worked out on an individual basis dependent on what is best for you. You will be given a written treatment plan and you will be given the opportunity to discuss this with your dentist. You may choose white fillings over silver ones, or the highest quality laboratories for your crown and bridges. Far Headingley Dental Care believes in offering choice. Please contact the practice to find out what the current cost of an examination is, details of Denplan and the Far Headingley Dental Care’s Budget Plan.
