I recently enjoyed a day out in Ilkley. Not, as you might imagine, taking in the beautiful scenery of the Moor, but attending a digital dentistry seminar!
360 Visualise is a state-of-the-art imaging centre in Ilkley, which I have been involved with for the last two years. On our behalf, their friendly team of Peter and Emma make highly detailed small-area CT scans for our patients who are considering having dental implants.
Traditional ‘x-rays’ are suitable for many situations in dentistry, but the modern standard for implant assessment and planning is the CT (Computed Tomography) scan.
The beauty of planning implant treatment with the benefit of a CT scan is that the image is both 3-D and incredibly accurate. This means we are able to meticulously plan, explain and discuss any proposed treatment with a patient before any actual treatment is performed.
I have found that patients really value the experience of having the scan and then seeing it presented by myself. As the imaging is clear and straightforward, it really promotes understanding and communication of the proposed treatment.
An evolution of this imaging philosophy is to go a step further to design and make highly accurate ‘guides’, which assist with the implant placement. There is a large global agreement in the dental community that these guides are the way forward in creating predictable, aesthetic and stable restorations for our patients.
