FHDC dentist, Laura Bearsdsmore, writes about her Masters degree…
“I will be undertaking a 2 year Masters in Advanced General Dental Practice from the University of Birmingham. My hope by taking part in post graduate education is to improve the quality of care I can provide to my patients and share this information with our patients. This will be through increasing my insight and understanding of a variety of general dental topics, resulting in greater awareness of the management and provision of treatment for patients.
The course is varied in both its content and assessment methodology, so I may need to photograph patients to write clinical reports, carve anatomically perfect molar teeth in wax or write new patient information leaflets to ensure the literature the practice provides is of the highest and most up to date quality.
One of the main objectives is to increase my knowledge and understanding of new dental technologies and techniques, both to improve success rates and longevity of your dental restorations, but also to bring new ideas and innovations ensuring we have a minimally invasive and patient friendly approach to your general care.
I will be embarking on my first 6 day residential at Birmingham this Sunday where I will be carrying out practical training in non surgical management of periodontal disease, electrosurgery, learning about the provision of fibre reinforced bridges, the occlusion and assessment for patient suitability of soft and hard splints to aid the treatment of temporomandibular dysfunction along with improving the aesthetics and bond strength of posterior composites….. along with much much more! Its going to be a long but interesting week!
I am looking forward to sharing new products we can recommend along side the successful treatment cases I complete”.
The team at FHDC wish Laura well whilst she’s studying. It is a big commitment and we’re all looking forward to benefiting from her learning.
