There are several ways that FHDC can help you reduce the cost of your ongoing dental care. Here is a summary of our top tips…

Prevention is better than cure

Adopting a positive daily oral health routine is the simplest and the most cost effective way of cutting the cost of your dental care. We’ve all heard that saying, “Prevention is better than cure”, well with your teeth and gums this is 100% true.

– Brush twice a day (ideally when you get up and just before you go to bed).

– Brush for two minutes & cover all surfaces of your teeth.

– Replace your toothbrush every three months. When the bristles become splayed, they are no longer effective.

– Floss and use interdental brushes to help remove the plaque and debris between your teeth that your toothbrush cannot reach.

– Invest in an electric toothbrush. These are more effective than hand brushing and most have a built in 2 minute timer and a pressure indicator to say if you are brushing too hard.

– Think about your diet. Try and reduce sugary foods and drinks and try and snack less between meals.

The next step to keeping your dental treatment costs down is to ensure that you keep regular dental appointments with your dentist and dental hygienist. Your dentist will conduct a thorough review of your mouth, teeth, gums and tongue to identify any problems. At FHDC we use modern technology including digital intra oral cameras, digital x-rays and our dentists wear loupes to help ensure that nothing is missed. In addition to checking for tooth decay and gum disease, they also look for the signs of oral cancer. Usually the earlier a problem is identified, the simpler (and cheaper) it is to resolve.

Keep it Regular

Regular visits to a dental hygienist will help keep your teeth and gums healthy. However good you are at following a positive daily oral health care routine, there will areas that you miss. If plaque turns to hard calculus, this cannot be removed by brushing at home. Whilst your dentist can perform a ‘scale and polish’ with your routine dental examination, they are not as good at cleaning your teeth and gums as a dental hygienist, who perform this service day after day (& love it!) Fees charged by a dental hygienist for cleaning are also comparatively less than those with a dentist.

Cheaper Dental Treatment

You can pay for your dental treatment in a variety of ways at FHDC. The simplest is ‘Pay As You Go‘ where you pay for the services you have when you attend the practice. We do not charge credit card fees at the practice, but there is a minimum spend of £150 on credit cards. There is no minimum spend on Debit Cards. Why? Credit card companies charge twice the fees as banks do for their debit cards. By encouraging the use of debit cards, we can keep our costs down and do not have to pass these on to our clients through higher fees.

Many clients at FHDC like to budget for their dental care with a convenient Dental Plan. At our practice we offer market leading Denplan dental payment plans.

Denplan Essentials includes 2 Dental Examinations a year (incl. routine x-rays), 2 x scale & polish with the dentist at your examination, 10% off the cost off general restorative dental care, weekend dental emergency access, worldwide dental emergency and injury cover. Denplan Essentials costs £18.85 a month.
Denplan Care is a monthly payment plan with fees determined by your dental history. It offers the same benefits as Denplan Essentials but instead of providing a discount for general restorative treatment, most treatments are covered and you only pay the cost of the dental laboratory fee. Monthly fees start at £18.91 for Band A.
Both schemes are paid via monthly direct debit.
