Six Month Smiles is an industry award-winning Cosmetic Brace System developed in the USA, and is available at FHDC.
Six Month Smiles has been specifically designed to help adult patients who wish for:
- An enhanced smile
- Short treatment times
- Minimal brace visibility
In contrast, Traditional Orthodontics will not usually satisfy these requirements. Traditional Orthodontics therefore acts as a barrier for many adults, who become ‘stuck’ : they understandably aren’t willing to have lengthy treatment lasting years, but they do not achieve their wish for straight white teeth.
Short Term Orthodontics
The Six Month Smiles concept is a branch of Orthodontics called Short Term Orthodontics (STO). This means that only the teeth seen when smiling are straightened, i.e. the back teeth are not moved. Short Term Orthodontics is generally appropriate when the feeling of the ‘bite’ is comfortable and when a person is already content with the position of their back teeth.
The benefits of Six Month Smiles treatment
A key benefit of using Six Month Smiles to align teeth is that the treatment time will be in the range of 4-to-9 months. This compares very well with Traditional Orthodontics using fixed appliances, which typically takes 18-30 months.
Another advantage of Six Month Smiles cosmetic braces is that the components are all coloured white, to minimise visibility. This feature is definitely appreciated by 6 Month Smile wearers!
Maintaining the new smile
As with all Orthodontic treatment, once the teeth have been gently aligned there is the need to keep the new tooth positions stable. This is achieved by retainers, which are either removable or bonded (fixed on the back of the teeth where they cannot be seen).
As General Dentists, we know how much a smile can be lifted with a simple course of home tooth whitening. That is why at the conclusion of Six Month Smiles treatment, we like to offer a free home tooth whitening course. This PolaTM whitening would usually cost between £250 and £300, but is complimentary with Six Month Smiles treatment at FHDC.
