Meet Dr Nick Stow the Leeds dentist with the friendliest smile and excellent chairside manner and discover why he chose to become a dentist over a doctor…
“I grew up believing it should be everyone’s duty to give something back in life. For me, this would be a healthcare career. Initially, and for quite some time, I wanted to be nothing but a doctor. I collected those fortnightly magazines with which each issue came to a different human organ (fake) and played games on the family computer that included a skeleton teaching healthy eating. I then hit my teenage years and my teeth better resembled those of Bugs Bunny than the overly happy kids in my science magazines.
After having orthodontics to make my teeth something too worth smiling about, I wanted nothing more than to give that same feeling to someone else. When I graduated from Leeds University Dental School in 2018, I immediately trained in providing Invisalign and cosmetic dentistry. The results and feedback I were getting from patients were great to hear and I felt I had justified my decision to pursue a career as a dentist.
During the Covid pandemic, I swiftly developed a passion for Endodontics (root canal treatment). Compared to other dental treatments, a root canal has many technical elements which determine its success. The procedure is often indicated in cases of chronic pain and can save teeth otherwise destined for the bin. Being able to save a tooth that others might extract is what I love most.
Since joining the team at Far Headingley Dental Care in May, I have completed my PgCert in Endodontics, passing with distinction. I start my second year of a Master’s this September. I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting all my new patients since joining and look forward to seeing all of those yet to come!”
