Six Month Smiles Case Study

Far Headingley Dental Care recently completed a Six Month Smiles treatment and with the permission of the patient we are able to publish this case study and photos.

Initial situation

The patient came to see us to enquire about options to straighten her upper teeth. She had previously worn a simple brace as an adolescent, but this had not been successful.

Her requirements were to correct the position of the incisor which was in a reverse position, as well as to improve the overall alignment of the upper teeth. She was happy with the appearance and function of the lower teeth.

Having assessed her needs and carried out an examination, we discussed the available options, which were:

  • Accept the current situation
  • Referral to a Specialist for Comprehensive tooth alignment
  • Alignment of the front teeth only, as the back teeth were in a good relationship

Our patient chose the last option as the tooth alignment phase was expected to be in the 6-9 months range, as opposed to Comprehensive tooth alignment, which may take around 2 years.

The Six Month Smiles treatment

One of the tooth straightening systems we use at FHDC is Six Month Smiles.

Six Month Smiles uses tooth-coloured components to minimise the visibility of the brace. Review appointments were arranged every 3-4 weeks to check on progress and make small adjustments to allow the tooth alignment to continue.

After 7 months, the patient and the dentist were very happy with the aesthetic improvements and the brace was removed. Retainers were placed to keep the teeth in the new relationship and a three week period of tooth whitening at home was carried out. Complimentary tooth whitening (worth £298) is always provided when having Orthodontics at FHDC.

Six Month Smiles case study

The entire process took under 9 months and our patient is very happy with the result that has been achieved.
